Bundle Add-ons: Turn Every Sale Into a Bigger One

20 March 2026 · Huskai · 4 min read

How Haul's Bundle Add-ons feature helps you increase your average order value — with one click, no third-party apps, and no extra fees.

Your Repeat Customers Already Want More

A customer adds a dog collar to their basket. They love the colour, they've picked the perfect size. They check out, they're happy.

But you know what would've made that order even better? A matching lead. Same colour, same hardware, perfect set.

The problem is, most customers don't think to look. They've found what they came for and they're done. The matching lead sits three scrolls down in a "Related Products" section that nobody reads. The sale you could've had disappears.

This happens in every vertical. The candle without the holder. The phone case without the screen protector. The dress without the matching belt.

What Bundle Add-ons Do

When a customer adds a product to their basket, a clean modal appears offering a related product at a bundle discount. The customer sees the add-on, picks their options (size, colour, fitting — whatever applies), and clicks "Add Both to Bag". Two items in the basket. One click, one decision, one bigger order.

If they're not interested? They click "No thanks" and nothing changes. No pressure, no pop-up fatigue.

You choose what the prompt says. Dottie's Pet Boutique calls theirs "Complete the Look" — because they're pairing collars with matching leads. A candle shop might use "Goes perfectly with". A fashion brand might say "Finish the outfit". The label is yours to set.

Three Ways It Works

We don't rely on a single moment. The feature gives you three ways to offer the add-on:

1. The Post-Add Modal

The moment a customer adds a product, the modal appears. This is when they're most likely to say yes — they've just committed to a purchase, and you're offering something that genuinely goes with it.

2. The Basket Nudge

If the customer skipped the modal (or added via quick-add), they see a subtle inline prompt in their basket:

Add a Matching Lead — from £18.00 (save 10%)
[+ Add to order]

It sits right below the parent product — not as a banner or pop-up, but as part of the basket layout. A gentle second chance.

3. The Bundle Discount

You set a percentage discount on the add-on when it's bought together with the parent product. "Save 10% when bought together" turns a maybe into a why not. The original price shows with a strikethrough next to the discounted price — the saving is obvious.

Who It's For

Any seller whose products naturally pair together:

If you sell something that has a natural companion, Bundle Add-ons turn that pairing into revenue.

How Sellers Set It Up

The feature is configured at the template level, not per product. Templates are blueprints that define what type of product something is — "Standard Collar", "Premium Harness", "Scented Candle", and so on.

You set up the add-on once on the template:

  1. Go to the template editor
  2. Add an add-on: name, image, base price, bundle discount %
  3. Pick which variant groups apply (e.g., Lead Length, Lead Fitting)
  4. Set the customer-facing prompt text
  5. Toggle it on

That's it. Every product using that template automatically gets the add-on offer. Create 50 collar products and they all offer the matching lead — no per-product configuration needed.

How Dottie's Pet Boutique Uses It

Dottie's Pet Boutique makes handmade dog and cat collars, leads, and accessories. Their products naturally pair — every collar has a matching lead in the same fabric and hardware.

They set up a single add-on on their "Standard Collar" template: a matching lead with a 10% bundle discount. They called the customer-facing prompt "Complete the Look" because it fits their brand. Here's how the maths works:

  • Average collar order: £15
  • Matching lead add-on: £20 (£18 with 10% bundle discount)
  • Combined order: £33 — more than double the original

If even a third of collar customers add the matching lead, that's a meaningful boost in order value with zero extra acquisition cost. You're not finding new customers — you're making more from the ones you already have.

The same setup works across their entire catalogue. Cat collars offer matching cat leads. Harnesses offer matching leads. One template configuration, hundreds of product pairings.

What Makes This Different

Most upsell tools are annoying. Pop-ups that nag. "Customers also bought" sections that feel algorithmic and impersonal. Checkout add-ons that feel like a cash grab.

On platforms like Shopify, you'd pay £15–50/month for a third-party upsell app on top of your plan fee — and you'd still be wrestling with configuration. On top of all the other hidden costs. On Etsy, you don't get the option at all.

Bundle Add-ons are different because:

  • They're contextual — the add-on is specifically chosen for that product type, not algorithmically guessed
  • They're configured by you — you know your products better than any algorithm
  • They have their own variants — the customer picks their lead length and fitting, not just "add to basket"
  • The discount is genuine — it's cheaper as a set than buying separately
  • They're not aggressive — one modal, one basket nudge, no nagging. The customer is always in control
  • They're included in your plan — no paid plugins, no app store fees
